00 SENATE BILL NO. 75 01 "An Act relating to a license to drive a commercial motor vehicle." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03  * Section 1. AS 28.33.100(a) is amended to read: 04 (a) A person may not drive a commercial motor vehicle until the person 05 applies for and is issued a license for that purpose under AS 28.15.041. The 06 department may not issue a license to drive a commercial motor vehicle unless the 07 applicant 08 (1) is at least 18 [19] years of age, to operate in intrastate commerce, or 09 at least 21 years of age, to operate in interstate commerce, except as provided in (f)  10 of this section; 11 (2) has held a valid driver's license at least one year before the date of 12 application or meets the experience qualifications established by the department; 13 (3) has successfully completed all required driving tests and written 14 and physical examinations; 15 (4) either does not have a driver's license issued by another jurisdiction 01 or surrenders all driver's licenses issued by other jurisdictions; and 02 (5) is domiciled in this state. 03  * Sec. 2. AS 28.33.100 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 04 (f) The department may authorize a person who is at least 18 years of age but 05 under 21 years of age to operate a commercial vehicle in interstate commerce if the 06 person 07 (1) holds a valid commercial driver's license under (a) of this section; 08 and 09 (2) is authorized to operate a commercial vehicle in interstate 10 commerce under federal law. 11  * Sec. 3. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 12 read: 13 REGULATIONS. The Department of Administration may adopt regulations necessary 14 to implement the changes made by this Act.
