01 "An Act providing for public school funding for telecommunications or Internet                                          
02 services."                                                                                                              
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1. AS 14.03 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                  
05            Sec. 14.03.127. Funding for telecommunications or Internet services. (a) A                                 
06       district that is entitled to a discount on telecommunications services or Internet                                
07       services under the federal universal services program in 47 U.S.C. 254 and regulations                            
08       implementing that section is eligible to receive an amount equal to the difference                                
09       between the cost of up to 200 megabytes of telecommunications or Internet services                                
10       eligible for the discount and the discount received for those services for a                                      
11                 (1)  school that qualifies as a Title I school under 20 U.S.C. 6301                                     
12       (Elementary and Secondary Education Act), as amended; or                                                          
13                 (2)  group of schools in a district that has a weighted average of                                      
14       students that qualify as a Title I school under 20 U.S.C. 6301.                                                   
01            (b)  If insufficient funding is appropriated to provide funding authorized under                             
02       (a) of this section, the state share shall be distributed pro rata to eligible school                             
03       districts.
