00 HOUSE BILL NO. 210 01 "An Act relating to the appointment and qualifications of the adjutant general." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03  * Section 1. AS 36.05.160(a) is amended to read: 04 (a) The adjutant general of the state is appointed by the governor. In  05 appointing the adjutant general, the governor may give preference to a person  06 who has served at least five years in the Alaska Army National Guard or the  07 Alaska Air National Guard. The governor shall prescribe the grade of the adjutant 08 general, which may not exceed lieutenant [MAJOR] general. To be eligible for 09 appointment as adjutant general, a person must be a citizen of the state and must be a  10 federally recognized general-grade officer in the Alaska National Guard or an  11 officer who has the qualifications to gain federal recognition as a general-grade  12 officer either in active status or in retirement status eligible for reappointment as  13 a general-grade officer. The adjutant general shall make returns and reports to the 14 Chief, National Guard Bureau, and to the governor or to the officers designated by the 15 Chief, National Guard Bureau, and the governor, at the times and in the form 01 prescribed.
