00 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 11 01 Proclaiming July 24, 2005, as Parents' Day. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 WHEREAS the United States Congress has proclaimed that the fourth Sunday in July 04 of each year be celebrated as Parents' Day; and 05 WHEREAS parents are the foundation of the family and a cornerstone of community 06 life in America, instilling in children the values, attitudes, and guidance needed to become 07 strong individuals and caring citizens; and 08 WHEREAS the family is important because it provides protection for its youngest 09 and eldest members, helps children cultivate relationships and develop a sense of meaning 10 and place in society, and provides the guidelines of integrity, excellence, and moral character; 11 and 12 WHEREAS parents are best positioned to influence the growth and development of 13 their children, teaching and modeling for them how to choose right from wrong, to be selfless, 14 and to display compassionate concern for others; and 15 WHEREAS parents need support and understanding in rearing their children; and 16 WHEREAS the observance of Parents' Day serves as a reminder of the indispensable 01 importance of responsible parenting and pays tribute to the millions of parents whose care has 02 nurtured us, whose vigilance has protected us, and whose selfless devotion has blessed our 03 lives; 04 BE IT RESOLVED by the Alaska State Legislature that July 24, 2005, is proclaimed 05 to be Parents' Day; and be it 06 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature encourages all parents to 07 commit themselves to responsible and nurturing parenting to ensure the sound development of 08 their children and to build strong and healthy communities.
