00 HOUSE BILL NO. 300 01 "An Act relating to the procurement of certain travel services." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03  * Section 1. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section 04 to read: 05 LEGISLATIVE FINDINGS AND INTENT. (a) The legislature finds that 06 (1) the procurement of certain types of travel services under AS 36.30 (State 07 Procurement Code) results in the use of one provider for each type of travel service and the 08 elimination of other and smaller providers of travel services; and 09 (2) the exemption of certain types of travel services contracts from the 10 procurement procedures of AS 36.30 would enable state agencies to use various providers for 11 travel services needs and would open up the state agency travel market to all providers of 12 travel services. 13 (b) It is the intent of this legislation that the state not contract with a sole provider to 14 provide all of the state's transportation or hotel services but that the state allow state agencies 15 to select various providers for agency travel needs. 01  * Sec. 2. AS 36.30.850(b) is amended by adding a new paragraph to read: 02 (42) contracts for travel services, including airplane travel, hotel 03 accommodations, and travel agency services, but excluding motor vehicle rentals. 04  * Sec. 3. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 05 read: 06 APPLICABILITY. AS 36.30.850(b)(42), added by sec. 2 of this Act, does not apply 07 to a contract entered into before the effective date of this Act if, by the terms of the contract, 08 the contract continues to be effective on or after the effective date of this Act.
