00 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 5                                                                                       
01 Commemorating the attack on Pearl Harbor by establishing Pearl Harbor                                                   
02 Remembrance Day.                                                                                                        
03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
04  WHEREAS on December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy and Air Force attacked                                         
05 units of the armed forces of the United States stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii; and                                 
06  WHEREAS  more than 2,000 citizens of the United States were killed and more than                                       
07 1,000 citizens of the United States were wounded in the attack on Pearl Harbor; and                                     
08  WHEREAS the attack on Pearl Harbor marked the entry of the United States into                                          
09 World War II; and                                                                                                       
10  WHEREAS  the veterans of World War II and other people of the United States                                            
11 regard December 7 of each year as the day to remember the attack on Pearl Harbor; and                                   
12  WHEREAS commemoration of the attack on Pearl Harbor will foster appreciation of                                        
13 the selfless sacrifice of the individuals who served in the armed forces of the United States                           
14 during World War II;                                                                                                    
01  BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature declares December 7, 1995, to                                         
02 be Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, and encourages the Governor to issue a proclamation                                    
03 calling on the people of the state to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and                                   
04 activities, including flying the flag of the state at half-mast in honor of the individuals who                         
05 died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.
