00 CS FOR SENATE BILL NO. 208(L&C) 01 "An Act relating to the employment of certain state employees and officers, and 02 certain officers and employees of the Alaska Railroad, seeking election to state 03 or national office." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. AS 39.25.160(e) is amended to read: 06  (e) Except for state officers who hold an elective state office and seek 07 election to the same or another state or national elective office, an officer or [AN] 08 employee in the classified, [OR] partially exempt, or exempt service who files a 09 general letter of intent to become a candidate, seeks nomination to, or becomes a 10 candidate for state or national elective political office shall immediately resign any 11 position held in the state service or with the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation 12 or the Alaska Railroad. The officer's or employee's position becomes vacant on the 13 date the officer or employee files a general letter of intent or a declaration of 14 candidacy for state or national elective office. This subsection applies to officers 01 and employees in the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation and in classified, 02 partially exempt, and exempt services, including officers and employees of the 03 University of Alaska. 04 * Sec. 2. AS 42.40.710 is amended to read: 05  Sec. 42.40.710. CORPORATION EMPLOYEES. Employees of the Alaska 06 Railroad are employees of the corporation and not of the state. The provisions of 07 AS 39 do not apply to employees of the corporation. However, no later than 08 January 1, 1987, the corporation shall adopt a code of ethics for its directors and 09 employees that is substantially equivalent to that adopted in AS 39. An officer or 10 employee of the corporation who files a general letter of intent to become a 11 candidate, seeks nomination to, or becomes a candidate for state or national 12 elective political office shall immediately resign any position held in the 13 corporation or in state service. The officer's or employee's position becomes 14 vacant on the date that the officer or employee files a general letter of intent or 15 a declaration of candidacy for state or national elective office.
