00 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 34 01 Declaring June 5 - 11, 1994, as Alaska Garden Week. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 WHEREAS gardening instills in all Alaskans a greater appreciation of nature, the 04 values of conservation, pollution control, and enhancement of the environment; and 05 WHEREAS this awareness and appreciation heightens each citizen's sense of 06 responsibility for and trusteeship of this great state; and 07 WHEREAS gardening efforts bring beauty to communities and promote individual and 08 community pride; and 09 WHEREAS gardening has established and sustained $28,000,000 in horticultural 10 businesses in this state; and 11 WHEREAS the Alaska State Federation of Garden Clubs and the University of Alaska 12 Cooperative Extension Service have provided inspiration, valuable information, guidelines, and 13 growing tips for home gardeners, enabling residents of our communities to reap the pleasures 14 of personally growing and then witnessing the beauty of the flowers, trees, shrubs, lawns, or 01 vegetable gardens they have planted; 02 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature declares June 5 - 11, 1994, to 03 be Alaska Garden Week in order to recognize the importance of gardening to the state; and 04 be it 05 FURTHER RESOLVED that through observance of Alaska Garden Week the Alaska 06 State Legislature encourages all Alaskans to recognize the importance of gardening to our 07 economy, enhancement of neighborhoods, and promotion of civic pride throughout the Great 08 Land.
