01 "An Act requiring that automobile liability insurance include coverage for                                              
02 uninsured or underinsured motor vehicles and an offer of policy limits for that                                         
03 coverage equal to coverage voluntarily purchased for bodily injury or death; and                                        
04 providing for an effective date."                                                                                       
05 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
06    * Section 1.  AS 21.89.020(c) is repealed and reenacted to read:                                                     
07  (c)  An insurer offering automobile liability insurance in this state for bodily                                      
08 injury or death shall, at the time of initial purchase, offer coverage prescribed in                                    
09 AS 28.20.440 and 28.20.445 or AS 28.22 for protection of the persons insured under                                      
10 the policy who are legally entitled to recover damages for bodily injury or death from                                  
11 owners or operators of uninsured or underinsured motor vehicles.  Coverage required                                     
12 to be offered under this subsection must include policy limits equal to the limit                                       
13 voluntarily purchased to cover the insured's liability for bodily injury or death, but the                              
14 policy limit written may not be less than the policy limit in AS 28.20.440.  In this                                    
01 subsection, "underinsured motor vehicle" does not include an uninsured motor vehicle.                                   
02    * Sec. 2.  APPLICABILITY.  This Act applies to a motor vehicle liability insurance policy                            
03 entered into or renewed on or after the effective date of this Act.                                                     
04    * Sec. 3.  This Act takes effect July 1, 1994.
